Welcome! My name is Jillian Lare, and I am an interior designer and educator living and working in Des Moines, Iowa.
As an instructor in an accredited interior design program, I realized quickly that there were never enough hours in the classroom to cover all of the techniques and skills my students wanted to learn in order to communicate their designs effectively. I wanted a place where I could document all of the little tips and tricks I’ve picked up over the years and explore new techniques, software and other tools as well.
So, I created Design Student Savvy as a resource for interior design students, aspiring interior designers, and established interior designers looking to enhance their technical and visual communication skills. I write about a variety of topics including hand sketching and rendering, Photoshop, SketchUp, Revit, and more.
My goal is to help interior designers improve their technical visualization skills so that they can better communicate with their clients and achieve top results in their business and careers.
